Rear Projection Smart Glass
In its private state, switchable glass becomes a bright rear projection screen — a storefront, showroom or lobby wall that turns into a display and back into clear glass.
Overview
A shop window that becomes a screen
Switched to its private state, the frosted surface of Smart Glass Technologies glass diffuses light, which makes it a rear projection surface. Switch it back and the glass is clear again.
Two uses from one surface
Clear glazing during the day, a full-size projection screen for a campaign, launch or evening display.
No hardware on the glass
The projector sits behind the glass; there is no frame, screen or panel mounted on the front.
Attention on the street
A moving image at full window size is far harder to walk past than a printed poster.
How it is built
How it is made
- Laminated switchable glass panels; the private state provides the projection surface.
- Projector type, throw distance and placement are planned with your AV integrator.
- Maximum panel size 70 in by 144 in, and 70 in by 126 in at 1/2 in.
- Low-voltage 48-55 VAC supply with concealed wiring.
- Switching in under 45 milliseconds so the surface can be triggered with the content.
- White privacy state is generally used for projection; light gray is also available.

Common questions
Questions about rear projection
How good is the image?
Image quality depends on the projector, the ambient light and the throw distance, which is why we plan the setup with your AV integrator before quoting.
Do you supply the projector?
We supply the glass. Your AV integrator specifies and installs the projector and content system; we coordinate with them on the glass.
Can it be fitted to glass I already have?
Yes, on suitable existing glass we apply our smart film. For new work or replacement glazing we supply complete laminated smart glass panels.
What happens when the power goes out?
Original PDLC is private when the power is off and clear when it is on. Reverse PNLC is the other way around and stays clear in a power failure.
How is it switched?
By wall switch, remote, mobile app, schedule, or integration with a building or access control system.
How much does it cost?
Our published prices start at $70 per sq ft for our smart film and $145 per sq ft for laminated smart glass. See the full breakdown on our smart glass cost page.
How long does it take?
Typical production is 2-4 weeks, with delivery in 5-10 days depending on size and scope.
Do you install it?
Yes. Our certified installers cover cities across the USA and Canada. Check our service areas.
