WHAT IS THE TRANSFORMER?

The Transformer (also referred to as power control unit or power supply) is a device for electrical privacy glass and PDLC film application that changes a higher voltage to a lower working voltage for electrical privacy glass and PDLC film. Switchable products work best in conditions under a voltage of 36-60vac.

To avoid an accident by overcurrent, a PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) thermistor is mounted in the transformer. When the PTC thermistor is heated by the overcurrent, the current is limited by the thermistor. After that, if the current decreases to normal condition and temperature of thermistor drops to RT, the thermistor recovers to normal condition.

WHERE THE SMART GLASS TECHNOLOGIES TRANSFORMERS ARE MADE?

Smart Glass Technologies’ transformers are made in Germany at a special facility and are certified by Underwriter Laboratories (UL).

Smart Glass Technologies has two types of transformers:

• 100W Transformer 110V – 48V that covers up to 100 Sq Ft
• 300W Transformer 110V – 48V that covers up to 300 Sq Ft

WHERE TO HIDE THE TRANSFORMERS?

This power supply can be placed from 1 feet up to 20 feet from the project.
The place of the transformer changes from installation to installation as every setup is unique. 

Due to the small size, 4.7 x 3 x 3 inches (L x W x H), it can be placed and hidden:

• Conference room, Office: ceiling, wall
• Wall- divider: stand, cabine, wall
• Bathroom: stand, attic, underneath a sink
• Window, Door: stand, cabinet, wall

Let’s take a look at a few examples.

1- External Project: Shower Window

The power supply was hidden in the attic. An electrician pre-ran low voltage wires to the top right corner of the window. 

2- External Project: Bathroom Windows

In this case, thanks to the setup of the project, it was a very easy solution: the transformer was put on the top shelf in the left corner.

3- Internal Project: Cinema Room

Due to a big square footage of this project two transformers needed to be used.
This room serves as one of the examples of Smart Glass Technologies professional neat work: the room was nicely furbished before the installers started the job and left in the same condition without any scratches.

4- Internal Project: Conference Room

In commercial spaces, the transformer can simply be put in the ceiling, that is easily movable.
